Even though this time of year is filled with a bit of stress and busy times, it’s a perfect time for reflection. I know some of you either take time off during the holidays or it’s your busiest time of year. But I do know one thing that is an essential part of getting through the holidays peacefully is GRATITUDE. It’s especially important to practice regular gratitude in your business.
I made a commitment to practice and reflect on gratitude this past month and it’s honestly become my secret weapon to being a happier business owner + increased my monthly income (and I don’t think that’s just a coincidence).
Every Thanksgiving, my family tradition is that we go around the table and say what we are thankful for. It always involves laughter (because my sister and I usually say we’re thankful unicorns and butterflies), but during hard years or circumstances we are usually brought to tears that through the madness we have things to be grateful for. It’s always an incredibly special time for my family.
To relate this back to our businesses, sometimes we have hard or incredibly amazing days, months, or years. Through the good and bad, practicing gratitude isn’t ignoring the hard times, but refocusing our thinking energy. I believe that when we focus on what we have, we allow life to give us more of that because we are more open to receive it and take notice when it comes.
So if you’re like, “that’s great and all, but how do I actually practice gratitude?” Well, I totally have your back because I’m giving you 3 helpful, practical ways you can practice gratitude every day + a FREE gratitude worksheet/journal page.
1. START YOUR DAY JOURNALING
I’ve been reading up on how to make mornings more peaceful and set the tone right for the rest of day. The one thing that has truly made a major impact on my day is to start my day journaling. It’s sets a good foundation so I don’t get anxious, stressed, and completely lose my mind. I start by listing things I am grateful for and then go into setting my intentions and writing down what’s going on in my life. And I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE looking back on it in weeks to come.
There’s something more concrete about writing something out than just thinking it. Don’t you notice when you try to schedule something and just have it in your head as opposed to putting in your calendar it doesn’t exactly stick? This is why writing out what you are grateful for is the bomb.com 🙂
If you don’t know where to start journaling, I’ve created this FREE gratitude journal worksheet that is a fillable pdf. You can either fill this in on your computer or print it out. Sign up below to grab your worksheet!
2. CELEBRATE + GIVE GRATITUDE FOR THE BIG + SMALL
If you’re a fellow biz owner, I know you know the feeling of our ever growing, never ending to-do lists. Instead of mindlessly completing task after task, why not celebrate each task you did (big or small). Even better, reward yourself after each thing has been done.
I like rewarding myself with dance breaks because I can get up from my desk, move my body, and be a total weirdo (which makes me happy). A couple more ideas to celebrate and reward yourself is going for a walk, taking a break with a good book, calling a friend, doing something that you enjoy (painting, singing, hiking, etc.)
If you’re totally into celebration then check out this post here to learn how celebration equals more biz success.
3. END YOUR DAY BY TELLING SOMEONE WHAT YOU’RE THANKFUL FOR
This is probably my favorite! My boyfriend and I started a habit of ending our day by telling each other 3 things we are grateful for. Sometimes it’s little things, but other times we get deep into what we are truly thankful for that day. I love doing this because even on the hardest of days, I can reflect back and if I can say at least one thing I am thankful for that day then I feel like I can re-shift my thoughts and that follows me into the next day. This is a game changer when you are feeling overwhelmed by your day.
With all of this said, I get it – life as an entrepreneur can be challenging, but I believe choosing this lifestyle makes you grow, expand, and stretch yourself to places you never thought you could go. That’s why I’m absolutely addicted and love it x 100! If we take a step back this holiday and express gratitude in our lives and businesses, we can turn the ordinary into true blessings. xo
