Most of us have become entrepreneurs because we crave some sort of financial or emotional freedom. I am a natural born rebel. Give me a rule or a set schedule and I’ll run as fast as I can. I resist any type of order. I’ve had people around me get frustrated by my free-spirited philosophy. I would often think I had to conform to their way of doing things, BUT I have found a couple tips and tricks that still allow me freedom while enabling me to GET SHIT DONE!
Now with the launch of this new blog space, it is extremely important to be on top of things. I run this blog space here and work as a brand and photo stylist full-time. On a daily basis, I am juggling logo revisions, coming up with a new DIY project for the blog & managing multiple projects for my clients. It may seem like a lot, but I have learned how to utilize my time and energy wisely to be the most productive version of myself while achieving serenity and balance.
Although this is not for everyone, I know some people love schedules and order and that’s completely ok. I truly appreciate those types of people and sometimes wish I was one of them. We’re all different and that’s what makes the world go round 🙂
1. EASE INTO YOUR DAY
I wake up at 7am to have my me time. This usually consists of meditation, checking Instagram, and drinking my morning coffee. This makes me feel good about my day and lets me ease into the daily workflow. About every other day, my boyfriend and I walk to get coffee and breakfast at our favorite neighborhood spot. This is always something we look forward to. Do things that make you happy, it will set your tone for the entire day!
2. DEDICATE TIMES TO CERTAIN ASPECTS OF YOUR BUSINESS
If you are like me juggling 20 completely different things a week then you know the struggle it can be to stay focused. With that said I don’t like have a set weekly schedule so every Sunday I like to plan out my week. I dedicate days or periods of the day to different things.
Here’s an example how I plan a typical week: MONDAY – client correspondence, contracts, answering inquiry emails TUESDAY – planning next week’s blog content and invoicing WEDNESDAY – DIY project and photo shoot THURSDAY – client work, social media planning and workshop promotion FRIDAY – photo editing, client work and happy hour (that’s what Friday is for, obviously 😉 )
3. KNOW HOW TO SET BOUNDARIES
When things first start rolling for you and your business it’s natural to take every client that approaches you. It’s exhilarating! When this happened for me, not only was my workload insane, my social life quickly became non-existent.
I have now learned that I don’t need to take on every client and take on everyone all at once. Set boundaries to what feels right for you. Someone once told me that growth without boundaries is absolute chaos. Set priority to the things that important in life, whatever those may be for you.
If you don’t set boundaries for yourself, no one will EVER do it for you!
4. BE KIND AND COMPASSIONATE TO YOURSELF
As entrepreneurs, we all have 1 million ideas that we want to come to fruition ASAP. I know it is easy to fall into the trap of feeling like there isn’t enough time in the world.
But really think about this – don’t you live this entrepreneurial lifestyle because you want freedom? Just because you don’t have a boss yelling at you all the time doesn’t mean you can do that to yourself.
If you are constantly beating yourself up for not getting enough done, you need to take a step back and give yourself some love. Find a good balance between acting on your career dreams and enjoying life.
I’d love to hear how you stay productive during the week. What tips and tricks do you use?
